We unfold the 3-section ladder in the desired position

A three-section ladder is a versatile access ladder that allows for significant heights—up to 7.5 m. A three-section ladder has a more complex design than the traditional single-section stepladder used a thousand years ago.

The main components of a three-section ladder are:

  • aluminum profile side rails,
  • ribbed rungs,
  • horizontal stabilizer,
  • tension straps,
  • steel section guides,
  • hooks and locks.

The three-section ladder can be unfolded in the following positions:

  • extension ladder,
  • alpha stepladder,
  • double-sided stepladder,
  • separately removed third section + double-sided stepladder,
  • transport position (all sections together).

Even if you have no experience using a three-section ladder, you can easily unfold it and use it. No preparation is required before using a 3-section ladder.

How do I extend the ladder into the alpha stepladder position?

The alpha stepladder is a working position resembling an inverted letter "Y." This position allows you to work at considerable heights without relying on a vertical surface.

Steps:

  • Unlock the locking hooks at the bottom of the ladder,
  • raise the third section up to the desired height,
  • engage the hooks on the desired rung to lock the position,
  • pull the bottom of the second section toward you until the ladder becomes a double-ended stepladder (the tension straps should be fully taut),
  • climb the ladder, but no higher than 4 feet from the top of the third section.

How do I extend a 3-section ladder into a stepladder?

The maximum length of the ladder is in the stepladder position, fully extended.

To raise a 3-section ladder to its maximum height, follow these steps:

  • Unlock the locking hooks at the bottom of the ladder;
  • Lift the third section up and secure it with the hooks;
  • Lift the second section up to the desired height and secure it with the hooks.

How do I fold a 3-section ladder?

To fold a 3-section ladder when no longer needed, follow these steps:

  • Lift the third (narrowest) section so the hooks are removed from the rung;
  • Lower the third section
  • The hooks should engage and the locks should click into place;
  • Fold all three sections together for transport and storage.

You can purchase a three-section ladder directly from the manufacturer. VIRASTAR three-section ladders are supplied with a certificate and warranty. VIRASTAR Triomax three-section aluminum ladders comply with EN131 and DSTU. We suggest you read the blog article "What height ladder do I need?"
